Virtual Vocations, the company behind the Web's largest and most comprehensive telecommute-only jobs board, has released the findings of their most recent survey, which was conducted in honor of National Work and Family Month (NWFM). Virtual Vocations members had the opportunity to participate in a 10-question survey about the role telecommuting plays in their quest to achieve work-life balance.
Online, December 1, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The voluntary NWFM survey was distributed to registered Virtual Vocations members via email. From the 1,094 responses received, the company garnered valuable insight into the ways in which the desire to achieve greater work-life balance influences job seekers to opt for telecommuting opportunities over traditional, on-site employment.
Laura Spawn, CEO of Virtual Vocations explained, "With the increasing push towards balancing work and personal life, we thought it would be beneficial to find out directly from jobseekers using Virtual Vocations if their motivation for telecommuting aligned with what we are seeing among other companies and published reports. An astounding 89% of the respondents are looking to telecommute simply for more work-life balance, which tells us that people are definitely craving the benefits that flexible and remote work has to offer."
RESPONDENT DEMOGRAPHICS
Survey responses submitted to Virtual Vocations provided greater detail about the structure of the U.S. telecommuting population. Among the more than 1,000 respondents, more than half are directly responsible for the care of children or elderly family members in their homes and 59.6% are over age 45.
Additionally, upwards of 60 percent of respondents are actively searching for telecommuting jobs and 82.8% would be willing to accept lower wages in exchange for the opportunity to work from home at least some of the time.
TELECOMMUTER WORK-LIFE BALANCE
Virtual Vocations' NWFM 2016 survey results highlight the degree to which boundaries between work and home can become blurred for telecommuters; yet, despite work-life balance challenges, U.S. workers would rather telecommute than work on-site:
34.7% of survey respondents report that their workplace does not support clear boundaries between work life and home life
Most respondents have been required to work remotely while on vacation
Nearly two-thirds of respondents admit to checking their work email outside of normal working hours
89% of survey respondents consider greater work-life balance to be one of their primary motivators for seeking telecommute jobs
